CrimeStppers is based on the principal that "someone other than the criminal has information to solve a crime" and was created to combat the three major problems faced by law enforcement generating that information: the fear of reprisal, an attitude of apathy, and reluctance to get involved.
CrimeStoppers resolves these problems by offering anonymity to people who provide information about crimes, and by paying rewards when the information supplied leads to arrest.
Not only does this program fight crime, it raises the community's awareness and brings out a feeling of pride in the community when a crime is solved thanks to the efforts of ordinary citizens.
CrimeStoppers maintains a 24-hour toll-free telephone number. 1-800-762-STOP(7867). When you call with information, you will be given a code number only known to you. When you call back to check on the progress of the case, you need only to identify yourself by your code number. If your information results in the arrest and filing of charges against an offender, you become eligible for a cash reward of up to $1000. Your reward will be paid by members of the board of directors, who will require only your code number for identification. Anonymity is gauranteed.
